Employee of the Month

The September Faculty Member of the Month is a great addition here at our school. She is committed to our students and the Coatesville community. From the start, she goes out her to attend most events here and always wants to help. For instance, she is here every morning helping students and our cafeteria staff with breakfast. Similar to her work outside of the classroom, she provides excellent instruction inside of the classroom. Dr. Cole pointed out her brilliance in one of her lessons. During the instruction, the students were highly engaged. Ms. Finnerty set the tone by creating a classroom environment that is warm, fun, and very educational. The props used for the lesson took time and much care. Our faculty member of the month for September is Ms. Erin Finnerty. She is an amazing addition here at the Intermediate High School and we are lucky to have her.

PAYS Survey Oct. 16th

Pennsylvania Youth Survey

Passive Parental/Caregiver Permission Letter

Dear Parent or Guardian:

Our school is taking part in the 2023 Pennsylvania Youth Survey (PAYS) sponsored by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, the Pennsylvania Department of Education, and the Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs. The survey will ask questions about the behaviors of students in the 6th, 8th, 10th, and 12th grades, including questions about school climate, mental health, violence, bullying, and substance use.

The information we receive will assist us and our community partners in working to promote mental health and prevent substance use and other problem behaviors. We want to ensure that all parents and caregivers are notified the survey is being conducted as well as provide you with as much information about the survey as possible. As a parent or caregiver, you have the right to prohibit your child’s participation. The following facts about the survey will help you make an informed decision:

· Participation in this survey is completely voluntary. Students will be instructed by their proctor that they can skip any questions they do not understand or choose not to answer. If they have any questions or concerns after taking this survey, they are instructed to talk with their school counselor or a trusted adult.

· The survey is designed to protect each student’s privacy; it is anonymous and confidential. Students will not put their names on the survey, and no student will ever have their individual responses reported.

· The survey is well tested, having been administered to over 2 million Pennsylvania students since the 1990’s. The information collected has proved invaluable to prevention planners in selecting programming to promote healthy youth development.

You can request a list of the survey questions by visiting this link: https://www.episcenter.psu.edu/index.php/paysquestion. For more information about the survey, including a list of Frequently Asked Questions, please visit www.pays.pa.gov then click on “2023.”

The survey will be administered during the school day later this fall and will take one class period to complete. If you do not want your child to participate, please submit your request to Mr. Maloney in writing

Thank you for your help in our efforts to keep our schools drug free and safe for learning. If you have any questions, please contact Cliff Maloney at maloneyc@casdschools.org.

Parents - Please Update your Child's Information!

The District will continue to utilize PowerSchool Enrollment to manage our online Student Information Update process. This system is a secure and streamlined process which allows the District to verify all student demographic, emergency, and medical information. The system will also allow families to electronically sign annual permission forms.

An email was sent on August 15th to the first parent/guardian listed for each current student in grades 1-12 who attended Coatesville Area School District last year and are returning for the 2022-2023 school year. This email notification will include your student’s snapcode and a snapcode link, which will take you directly to your child’s online registration.

Should you have any questions or concerns pertaining to the form, please do not hesitate to contact us at 610-466-2420.

ATTENDANCE

Regular school attendance is imperative for success in school. If your child is absent from school, please email the reason for the excuse that includes the date and purpose of the absence. You can email these to our attendance office at CAIHSAttendance Students can also bring notes down to the attendance window located in the main office. Please see the attendance requirements for all students below.

  • If a student misses 18 days of school and/or 9 days in a semester, and/or misses the same class 18 times, and/or is habitually late to school, he/she will be required to have a School Attendance Improvement Plan (SAIP) meeting. From the meeting, the team will discuss the student’s attendance and make a potential recommendation for retention or being held back.

  • In order to receive credit, a student must attend 90% of his/her class days.

  • If a student misses more than 10 lawful or unlawful absences, requires an excuse from a licensed practitioner of the healing arts or medical doctor.

  • A student can be retained for failing to show academic achievement for promotion.

  • Retention or being held back shall only be considered for the worst-case scenarios and parents/guardians will be notified and a part of the process.

CAIHS families, should you have any questions, please reach out to CAIHS's administration.
